Kathryn Proulx

I am a well-rounded digital design director who has spent time inside an Ad Age A-list agency, a small studio with huge talent, and a scrappy start-up that made a name for itself in the most unlikely of times. I can seamlessly turn an idea into a vision, and build it every step of the way from vision to functional designed prototype. My front-end development experience allows me to work closely with development teams building out my team's ideas to make sure products get built flawlessly. I enjoy building and leading talented teams and encouraging employees of any level to make their best work. As a bonus, I am extremly passionate about mentoring and promoting women in technology.

Design Director, Technology · Super Deluxe

Apr 2016—Present · Los Angeles, CA

I'm having fun concepting, designing, prototyping, and building small, weird internet-based art projects at Super Deluxe—the world's most illegitimate company. Super Deluxe is the future of youth entertainment, making over a million loyal fans in less than a year. In addition to owning the house brand style guide, I help to expand our characters world's beyond video by creating custom-made, enjoyable digital experiences (and physical products, too!); be it a meditation app hosted by a stoner, a fake presidential campaign backed by custom-designed airhorns, or an Instagram photo editor for fans to pledge their allegiance to the #cheapthrillsfam & Tabasko Sweet!

Product Design Lead · Huge

Sep 2014—Nov 2015 · Los Angeles, CA

I traded teams from the Visual Design department to the User Experience team for my second stint at Huge. I worked on a mix of pitches, project planning, and client work. I was responsible for designing elegant, simple, hard-working interfaces that to be used by millions of people every day with a high level of autonomy. I managed the product design process, while driving decisions, tracking issues, and assisting in estimating resource needs and schedules.

Part-Time Faculty · Parsons The New School For Design

Jan 2012—Dec 2014 · New York, NY

I taught interaction design and development best practices including media integration and problem solving to undergraduate Design and Technology students. HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, information architecture, user experience, and visual design were all explored. I mentored students applying to careers in design and technology.

Interactive Art Director · Studio Rodrigo

May 2013—Aug 2014 · New York, NY

I worked on a small, tight-knit team contributing as an interactive art director and product designer. I was responsible for concepting and designing websites, apps, and interfaces—and making sure they're solid by building client-facing prototypes. I helped make incredible products and services come to life for Rodrigo's inspired clients.

Senior Visual Designer · HUGE

Aug 2010—May 2013 · Brooklyn, NY

I cut my teeth at Huge while they were on the Ad Age A-list. I learned under Joe Stewart. I worked on large scale marketing campaigns, a website redesign for a major cruise company, conceptual pitches, as well as mobile web and iOS and Android apps. I collaborated on creative and original concepts with the project team, established style guides and comprehensive visual design systems, participated in visual design presentations to clients, and developed design specs for client delivery and production.
